Essential Book for Afficianados of Poetry

Written in an approachable style accessible to scholars and non-scholars alike, this book sheds new light on the less flashy proponents of modernism in world poetry. Years of profound thinking on this topic obviously went into discovering and examining the connection which binds such seemingly disparate poets as Williams and Rilke, for instance, a union to which no serious scholarship had previously been dedicated.
I could imagine this being used as required reading for a course more or less designed around this specific topic -- or a course on modern poetry in general.
I could also imagine the casual appreciator of any one poet presented in this book being pleasantly surprised to find a whole new level of appreciation with which to approach that poet -- and a whole new set of poets to appreciate.
