Dan Miron is Leonard Kay Professor of Hebrew and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. He is the author more than thirty volumes of literary scholarship and criticism in Hebrew, Yiddish, English, German, and Russian.

Important Book, Overpriced

From Continuity to Contiguity is a major book of critical theory for students of the development of writing by Jews in the diaspora and Israel. It changes the terms of the discourse. Alas, Stanford University Press priced it so far beyond the budgets of students and scholars on ordinary incomes that few people will read it except those lucky enough to find a used copy at one of the used book search services. Even the Kindle version at $52 is out of sight. It is an important book that has been priced beyond the reach of its most likely readers, even on Black Friday. Last time I looked, there were only Kindle and Hardcover editions, so the book's potential impact on a field of study is mitigated by its unavailability.
